The Lost Civilization Mystery: Were Humans Created by Aliens? Graham Hancock and Sitchin Challenge Human History!

Could everything we know about human history be wrong?

For decades, mainstream science has confidently taught that civilizations like Mesopotamia, Babylonia, and Ancient Egypt mark the dawn of human advancement. But what if there was an even older, forgotten civilization—one that was wiped out in a global cataclysm, leaving behind only scattered clues? And what if, even more controversially, humans were engineered by extraterrestrial beings thousands of years before recorded history?

Two men—Graham Hancock and Zecharia Sitchin—dare to challenge the accepted version of our past, presenting jaw-dropping theories that could reshape our understanding of where we came from and why.

Hancock’s Lost World

Graham Hancock, a journalist and researcher known for his best-selling books, argues that humanity’s true history stretches far deeper than we’ve been told. In Magicians of the Gods (2015), Hancock claims that an advanced civilization flourished over 12,000 years ago—long before the pyramids or Sumerian cuneiform. According to his theory, this civilization was obliterated by a comet impact around 10,800 B.C., a catastrophe that triggered massive floods and wiped out nearly all traces of its existence.

But Hancock says some evidence remains. One of the most compelling is Göbekli Tepe, an archaeological site in Turkey with massive stone pillars arranged in complex circles, dating back to around 9600 B.C.—thousands of years before Stonehenge. To Hancock, this suggests that someone—perhaps survivors of the lost civilization—had knowledge of engineering, astronomy, and religious symbolism that predates anything else on record.

Sitchin’s Alien Engineers

If Hancock’s ideas sound radical, Zecharia Sitchin takes things to another level entirely. Based on his own translations of ancient Sumerian texts, Sitchin proposed that a race of extraterrestrials called the Anunnaki arrived on Earth some 500,000 years ago from a hidden planet named Nibiru. Their goal? To mine Earth’s gold.

Faced with the hard labor of mining, the Anunnaki allegedly genetically engineered primitive humans—mixing their DNA with Homo erectus—to create a new species: modern Homo sapiens. These humans were designed to serve their alien creators. According to Sitchin, this explains the sudden leap in intelligence and development that mainstream science struggles to fully account for.

But it doesn’t stop there. Sitchin believed the biblical Flood was a real event triggered by melting Antarctic glaciers, which destroyed the Anunnaki’s bases and forced them to retreat. In their absence, humanity was left to fend for itself—but not before being taught agriculture, architecture, and governance by these godlike beings.

Controversy and Curiosity

Mainstream archaeologists and historians dismiss both Hancock and Sitchin as pseudoscientific fantasists. They argue that there’s no solid proof for these theories—no DNA evidence, no alien artifacts, and no smoking-gun texts.

Yet millions remain fascinated.

What if history isn’t a straight line, but a cycle of rise, destruction, and rebirth? What if ancient myths were not symbolic stories, but veiled memories of real events?

One thing is certain: the mystery of our true origins is far from settled. As evidence mounts and ancient ruins continue to reveal secrets, perhaps the future of archaeology will not just uncover what we were, but who made us—and why.
